People own very different types of animals in their families. Some like the standard ones like cats or dogs, while others like some birds or even snakes. But this case is really special. This is a pet named Kira. Kira is a wolf.
Kira was left by her mother when she was only 3 days old and could not have sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇᴅ if Alida did not come to the ʀᴇsᴄᴜᴇ . Kira’s life experience is quite bumpy. Kira’s mother initially lived with humans, but the family ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ it, and the wolf mother ended up in a shelter, and she no longer believed in humans. The mother wolf gave birth to her baby in the shelter, but soon after she gave birth to her cubs and refused to feed and care for the cubs. Kira and other wolf cubs, who were only 3 days old, were ᴀʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ by their mother.
Fortunately, with the care of the staff, Kira and the wolf cubs sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇᴅ, but they have not been raised by wolf mothers since they were young, and have never been in contact with big wolves, so they have no ability to sᴜʀᴠɪᴠᴇ in the wild.
Under these circumstances, Alida decided to adopt Kira. The wolf was taken in, raised, and trained up like a dog by Alida so that she could have another chance at life. As wolves are wild and like dogs, they don’t have generations of domestication in their genes, so it was quite difficult to domesticate her.
Alida had to work extra hard as Kira was very careful of new things. She needed to be socialized so she met kids, adults, and other animals. Alida has done a lot of homework for this. She wants to help Kira adapt to human life like a dog, so as to avoid being marginalized because it can neither return to the wild nor live with humans.
Alida made sure she wouldn’t be sᴄᴀʀᴇᴅ of the modern world and therefore took her on lots of adventures. She took her to many different places so that she could better study sounds and smell smells. Wolves are ᴀꜰʀᴀɪᴅ of new things, it is innate to them. The name for this fear is ɴᴇᴏᴘʜᴏʙɪᴀ . It was very difficult and hard to work with Kira, but that was actually the only way she could continue to live with her in a normal environment.
After so much effort and work by Alida, Kira became like a dog. Calm and safe for the environment, it would not ʜᴜʀᴛ anyone. Kira is really calm and other dogs cannot ᴘʀᴏᴠᴏᴋᴇ her ᴀɢɢʀᴇssɪᴏɴ nor does she become ᴀɢɢʀᴇssɪᴠᴇ herself. She is very calm and attentive when children are around. In case someone does not want the child close, is sᴄᴀʀᴇᴅ and ᴄʀɪᴇs , Kira will move away.
